NOD14 – The Song Must Go On

Notes of Destiny 14
(The Song Must Go On)

As they looked into Russpine’s home,
The carnage became hard to bear.
The place had been ransacked beyond recognition,
And there were tree parts scattered everywhere.
Russpine stared in disbelief,
Then let out a primal yell.

Russpine: “I swear by all that is good in this world,
I will end this evil spell.”

Windy: “What happened here?
What’s going on?”

Russpine: “I am the last tree spirit in this forest.
All the Elders are now gone.
Their bodies lay before you,
On the floor of my home.
I may not need to tell you this,
But we are now, alone.”

They paused for a moment,
And mourned the whole scene.
Fort could tell from subtle signs,
This was a pirate scheme.

Russpine: “The day of Saol Nua will go on.
With or without our song.
But all the children that will be born,
Will not last very long-
Against monsters such as
The ones who did this.
I ask you both kindly,
Can you sing and play on pitch?”

Windy: “I can play whistle,
Though I do not have my own.
And I can sing well,
But I usually do it alone.”

Fort: “I have royal training
On many many instruments and voices.”

Russpine: “Hmm, Then that will be-
One of many, many hard choices.
The song of Saol Nua grants the newborns,
The way in which they should go.
So they’ll fill the forests, plains, and hollows,
Where their light will show.
Without the song, they will all stand still,
Until individually told-
The way they should go by me or someone else.”

Fort: “We will help you.
Be bold.”

Russpine: “For now, let us set up a funeral pyre,
For my fellow dead trees.
Then we may plan exactly our strategies,
And pray The Songwriter we’ll please.”
