NOD17 – The Phoenix Wakes
Notes of Destiny 17
(The Phoenix Wakes)
About a mile from Russpine’s home,
Hidden in a cave,
Was a multi-colored, rock-like thing,
With ash around it’s base.
Not too large, it was the size,
Of a turkey or a hen.
But very few knew what lurked,
Inside that little den.
The walls of the object began to crack,
And fire began to emanate.
And a sound of pain from an animal,
Sounded, heartbreaking, and great.
The fire intensified ten fold there,
And the creature finally escaped,
The egg from which it had now hatched,
Had been burned in it’s wake.
The bird with plumes of many colors,
Cleaned itself like a cat.
It’s tail was long like a peacock’s,
It’s wings the same, and flat.
It was about the size as well,
Of a full grown peacock.
But it’s inherent ability to create fire,
Left many in pure shock.
It was the Phoenix. And it was reborn,
This time as a male.
Every time a Phoenix died,
It would rise above the gale.
It would float as gently as it could,
Into a safe place to die,
Then it would burn so hot and bright,
It would look brighter than the sun in the sky.
Then from the ashes of the creature,
Would spring an egg and then,
A year or so later the egg would hatch,
And that’s what happened in this den.
The Phoenix turned. It heard a sound,
A song from far away,
Calling him forth with magic he couldn’t
Comprehend in any way.
The he recognized the tune,
And flew to it, perturbed.
He had been forced to birth early.
Why was he summoned to serve?
When he arrived at the sound,
He saw a human girl.
Playing the song of the Phoenix on Whistleknife,
Like she thought she ruled the world.
He intelligently spoke to her,
Which was obviously quite a fright.
Phoenix: “Is there a reason you woke me up?
And sped up my birth night?”
The Phoenix’s feathers ruffled,
And it set itself on fire.
The flames around him leaped and danced,
Growing hotter with his ire.
But a Tree Spirit stepped in between them.
His hands open in a plea,
Russpine: “Forgive us, Phoenix, but we need your help.
We’re in danger of a high degree.”
